Tripp, South Dakota
Rich and I have done some serious research into where we would like to retire. We took into consideration each state's tax situation, the price of real estate and it's location in the country. The winner was the State of South Dakota. It just seemed to have everything we wanted in a retirement location. So, we set off in our motor home and drove halfway across the country. We knew it had everything we wanted, based on our research, but would we like itt?. The answer is yes, we love it.
We
found the people very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Each and every place
we stopped we talked to people and learned a lot about this state. Unfortunately,
we only had a week and could not explore the whole state.
We were restricted to the southeast corner of the state. Our first introduction to the state was breakfast in the town of Vermilion.
It was a Saturday, and everyone was so excited about the University of South Dakota football game, scheduled for later that day. What community spirit!! We then traveled through Yankton to our destination.
Tripp, South Dakota is a small town, like many others we saw as we drove on RT 37N. The town center is located by the railroad line and sports a large grain elevator.
Main
Street was charming, with small shops and restaurants.
It has it's own school system and town liberally. After spending almost
a week there, we decided the weather was very similar to what we are used
to in Connecticut and the scenery
was just beautiful.
There are a lot more cows, horses and sheep than I have every seen before. As you drive along, you see not only see the animals, you see acre upon acre of corn and hay fields. There are beautiful barns everywhere.
Rich and I decided that this corner of South Dakota seemed perfect for the quiet spot we were looking to retire in.
After having lived and vacationed on the east coast for so many years, this centrally located state is also closer to a lot of the states we wish to visit in our retirement.
Other pictures we would like to share with you.
