Adair, Iowa
While traveling east on Rt 80 in Adair, Iowa I was nearing Exit 76, when
I started looking for a place to eat. I got off the the exit and turned
left. I saw lots of signs but the one for Smiley's
Steakhouse caught my eye and fit my mood. The distinctive logo,
a large, yellow smiley face could not be missed.
Smiley's is a dine-in steak house, located at 108 So. 5th Street, Adair, Iowa 50002. They are open from11:00 am to 10:00 pm. They specialize in grain fed Iowa beef and pork. Having done some research, I knew that Iowa meat was considered some of the best to be had.
I enjoyed a great meal. I chose to indulge in their lunch-time buffet. At a modest price of $5.95, I feasted on fried chicken, BBQ chicken and meatloaf along with a nice salad bar and selection of vegetables.
Smiley's Steakhouse offers a full lunch and dinner menu. Included in the menu are a selection of your favorite cuts of steak. They also feature BBQ Pork Ribs, Crab Stuffed Filet of Beef, Pork Volcano, Pan Fried Trout and Shrimp and Scallop Alfredo.
The owner Fred Oehlerking and his son spent some time chatting with me. They graciously gave me permission to take some pictures. Fred told me Smiley's Steakhouse is attempting to make the largest hamburger in the world, for the Guiness World Book of Records. They need help though, coming up with a recipe for the bun. If you have one, call Fred at 641-742-3699 or email him at smileyssteaks@yahoo.com
