Long Lake, NY

Rt. 3 becomes Main Street and runs right in front of the lake. The scenery is beautiful as it is in many of these small lake towns.

We decided to get out and catch a little sun on their public beach and then we saw something that really seemed to be the best idea so far all weekend.

At the end of the beach, Helms Aero is located. Pilot Tom Helms has been flying, in this family business, for decades. We had a wonderful air tour of many of the 3000 lakes and ponds that are in the Adirondack Park. The fee was $30.00 each for about a 30 minute ride.

The view of the foliage was spectacular and we highly recommend the ride if you get up that way. Across the street from the beach is the famous, old victorian, Adirondack Hotel. To see pictures we took while up in the seaplane, click here: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic 6 Pic 7

North Adams, MA

On our way south we drove thru Vermont on Rt. 5/Rt100 to North Adams, MA. and the Natural Bridge State Park. It cost us $5.00 to park and then we were on our own to discover the wonders of this 48 acre park. We saw a white marble arch and man-made white marble dam. and toured an abandoned marble quarry. The "natural bridge" for which the park is named, according to geologists,is 550 million year old. It is a beautiful park, with a visitor's center and very clean bathroom facilities.

There is a 0.25 mile walkway above and through the chasm, and a 0.5 mile wooded walking trail. There is also a picnic area.Click here for a few more pictures of this incredible marble: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4

Our last stop before reaching home was for dinner at the Hairpin Turn Restaurant, on Rt. 2.at the famous Hairpin Turn. We had a lovely lunch on the mountain side with breathtaking views of the mountains. A very fitting way to end our foliage weekend.
