Land Between the Lakes, Kentucky

On Kentucky Route 80, we traveled to the Land Between The Lakes
This is an incredibly beautiful inland peninsula that was created when
the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers were dammed up, in the 1960's.
Two new lakes were created; Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. They
became one of the world's largest man-made bodies of water.

It is also camping heaven. It doesn't matter if your want to sleep under the stars, have a tent or a motorhome.

Part of Barkley Lake, is a small inlet called Energy Lake, this was created
by the construction of the Energy Dam.

This is where we chose to set
up housekeeping in the woods. We found beautiful swimming beaches,
an activity area, that included basketball hoops, archery areas and places
to rent canoes.

We found that you can purchase passes to see Elk & Bison Prairie, where you can hike and see both of these animals, Golden Pond Planetarium and the Woodlands Nature Station

Rich and I were lucky, we arrived during the last week in November, to find that they were open March 1st through November 30th.

We were both glad that we didn't miss this experience. There is so much
to see here.

We would need at least two weeks, if not a month to see it all. We will add a postscript when we get back there.

We camped on Energy Lake at a very modest nightly price of $14.00.
This price included very pretty lake views, a camp ring and electricity.

This campground boasted a community room and washers and dryers were available. There were many sites that could accommodate our 35 foot motorhome.

The way the campsites are situated, they looked like they could welcome
large groups of campers, as well as smaller groups.

I suggested to our local Boy Scout leader, that this would be a great place to take our local boyscouts, for their summer outing. We also enjoyed exploring the many hiking trails,
and even in November I found lots to photograph.

Rich and I both agreed that this is one place we would like to go back to.
Preferably in the summer, so that we can take full advantage of all
Land Between the Lakes has to offer.
