Heading to the Adirondack Mountains
This is the last trip in our old truck camper. After leaving our Connecticut
home we decided to have dinner at Rom's Restaurant, Rte 131, Sturbridge, MA
It's too bad that we were not planning to stay in Sturbridge that night.
Sturbridge Village was just down the road. It would have been nice to see
this replica of an old New England village with character actors doing live
demonstrations. We saw quite a variety of motels and campgrounds in the
area and a number of restaurant to choose from. There were also lots of
places to buy antiques.
Saratoga Springs, NY
We traveled the I 90 West to Albany, NY and then took Rte 87 north to Saratoga Springs, NY. It was late when we got in. We found the Autumn Moon Campground in Middle Grove, NY, just northwest of Saratoga Springs. The owners were very welcoming and we soon settled in. Autumn Moon Campground can be found at 7165 Kilmer Road. It offers 100 acres of woods, hiking trails, hot showers, laundry facilities, a playground as well as a camp store, dump station and best of all, pets are welcome.
We were up bright and early the next morning. Saratoga Springs is a beautiful city. Both Skidmore College and Empire State College are located there. I was thrilled with all the shops to browse in. We had breakfast at the Saratoga Diner on Rt. 9. We found it spacious and enjoyed an excellent meal. Rt. 9 is just loaded with motels and places to eat. Our only complaint was that the races were over for the season We are already making plans to come back and visit again next summer.
Lake George, NY
We continued north on Rt 9 and followed the western side of the lake towards Lake Ticonderoga (which was closed when we finally got there.) Again, we passed untold number of motels, campgrounds, restaurants, (we even found an A & W Restaurant, complete with carhops for every taste and pocketbook.

There were also quite a number of state parks for day and overnight use.
When we got to the town of Lake George
we took the Prospect Mountain Parkway to the summit. This is just across
the road from the Lake George Battleground Campground. The fee was $5.00
for the car. There were three wonderful lookouts and a parking lot at the
top that offers a shuttle to the top. The views of Lake George and the autumn
foliage was spectacular. We could even see mountain peaks in Vermont and
New Hampshire.
