Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Eureka Springs was a really cool place to visit, unfortunately,
we were there in late November, and it was raining most of the
time we were there. That really affected the amount of places we
could visit.

We saw enough to know that it would be worth coming
back to, say in the spring, summer or fall.

Eureka Springs is known for it's creative artists. You can find original jewelers,
woodworkers, potters, weavers and sculptors.

The city also boasts a writer's
colony. There are many galleries to browse in. Main Street was a real joy.
So many great shops!

We stopped at the Visitor's Center and found that they offered Trolley rides
all over town and through a loop that features many Victorian homes that
decorated in "gingerbread trim".

We found a tremendous amount of information about Eureka Springs
being the romantic wedding capital of the east. One can be married in church,
a wedding chapel or one of the many bed and breakfasts.

In fact we saw so many hotels and motels, we had to believe their claims to the vast number of visitors they get annually.

We saw a sign for the The Great Passion Play, for the Christ of the Ozarks statue, Cosmic Cavern and the Ozark Mountain Hoe-Down Theater.

Rich and I both love stone formations and rocks, big and small. We couldn't resist temptation when we saw a sign advertising Pivot Rock. What we found was beautiful walkways and trails, on the side of the Ozark Mountains.

We saw the main Pivot Rock and others that were clearly designed by erosion from
the time the ocean covered Arkansas. One memorable rock formation was a natural stone bridge. The scenery was outstanding. We saw lots of evidence of wildlife and some very amusing squirrels.

We were also interested in a woodland display of old farm machine. (1)

We own some land a short distance from Eureka Spring. When Rich went hiking on it, the best picture he
took was of this recently deceased armadillo.

Eureka Springs is truly a treasure in the Ozarks. This is another place that will warrant another visit. Hopefully
in the sunshine.
