Brooklyn, Connecticut
I
have lived in Brooklyn, CT most of my life and it still amazes me how beautiful
a town this is.
Brooklyn is located in Northeastern CT, tucked into the corner between Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Brooklyn was settled in the 1600's and it's town center is filled with colonial era homes, farms and orchards.
If looking on your map, you will find Brooklyn at the crossroads of Routes
6 and 169.
Rte 6 is the major highway connecting Providence, RI to Hartford, CT. Most of Brooklyn's business district is located in East Brooklyn, on Rte 6.
There are a number of quaint shops and restaurants in the center of town. Route 169 runs through historic
Brooklyn center and has been designated a Connecticut State Scenic Road and a National Scenic Byway.
My favorite roads to enjoy driving down in Brooklyn include Wolf Den Road, home of the Daughters of the American Revolution House and the University of Connecticut Extension Center Office.
My
second favorite is Bush Hill Road. Bush Hill Road offers the vibrant green
fields, broken by stone
walls hundreds of years old, and the native flowers that grow along
them, that New England is famous for.
Another great road is Creamery Brook Road, home to the Creamery Brook Bison Farm and Ice Cream stand. Last is Beecher Road. It is so peaceful and has the most beautiful pond and at the end is one section of Blackwell's Brook. Home to great trout fishing.
Brooklyn is also home to a fine elementary school and middle school, as
well as the famous Brooklyn Fair. The Brooklyn Fair is one of the oldest,
continuous agricultural fairs in
Connecticut.
The fair hosts a beauty pageant, Farm Boy's Night Out, and live music along with numerous agricultural competitions. There are also rides, a circus, and a pedal tractor pull for the kids. All that and food galore. The Brooklyn Boy Scouts host their famous chicken barbecue there. The fairgrounds are locate a half a mile south of the intersection of Rte 6 and Rte 169.
You know my favorite roads, now for my favorite restaurants. My all time favorite restaurant is Cozy Corner Restaurant, located on Rte 205, close to the Quinebaug River and the Wauregan Dam. I am convinced that the owners, Stacy and Gus serve the best breakfast anywhere. I also enjoy Johnny's Pizza and Classic Pizza. They are both famous for their home cooking, great salads and great pizzas. They are both located on Rte 6 in the midst of the shopping district.
